Tips and advice - Leisure home insurance
Towergate Bakers were the first brokers to offer an insurance
policy specifically for leisure homes. So we are well placed to
advise on the simple things you can do to reduce the risk of a
claim in the first place.
Some helpful tips
- Make sure your leisure home is fitted with smoke alarms. Check
them regularly and replace the batteries every six months
regardless of whether the alarm has been activated or not.
- Never allow strangers into your property and leave them
unsupervised.
- Never leave expensive items on view and always lock your doors
and windows when you are not in your property or have retired for
the night.
- Always shred confidential documents or anything that includes
your personal information before putting in your rubbish or
recycling bin.
- Never use an open chip-pan – for frying chips a fully-enclosed
deep fat fryer is far safer.
- If you are going to be away from your property for a long time,
ask a neighbour or your park manager to keep an eye on it for
you.
- Modern leisure homes are far better insulated than older-style
static caravans but may still be susceptible to frost. During
colder periods we recommend you drain the water systems, this will
not remove the risk of frost damage to plumbing but it will reduce
the risk of subsequent water damage.
- Why not invest in a lockable store for outdoor furniture,
gardening equipment etc. when you are not using them.
