Caravan towing game released

17 December 2008

A new computer game, which aims to demonstrate the factors which can affect the towing stability of caravans, has been released by a leading team of UK academics.

The game is available on the website of caravan manufacturer Bailey, which funds towing research at the University of Bath's Department of Mechanical Engineering.

People playing the game can experiment with the positioning of different payload items within a caravan and then experience the effect this has on the caravan's overall stability rating.

"By adjusting the weight distribution on the trailer, the simulator shows how the stability of the same car and the same trailer carrying the same payload at the same speeds can be significantly altered", a Bailey spokesman is quoted by outandaboutlive.co.uk as saying.

Also included on the site is a video demonstration given by Dr Jos Darling on stability. It was made using a scale model simulator at the International Caravan & Motorhome Show recently.
