NEC Boat & Caravan Show
2010
20 May 2010
February brought with it the 49th annual Boat &
Caravan Show, held at the NEC. The show, hailed as the largest show
for outdoor leisure in the UK, lasted 6 days and spanned 5 halls,
with over 5000 stands of varying sizes and over 17,000 exhibition
staff and journalists.
Initial reports showed a steady if not
spectacular attendance in the early part of the week potentially
due to the fact it did not coincide with half term this year. This
theory was then backed up by a huge surge in attendance over the
weekend leaving attendance levels only 1% down on last years show
with a total of 83,364 visitors.
Bailey were pleased as their new Pegasus and
Olympus ranges stole the show, equating for 90% of their total
sales. This popularity was reportedly due to the new Alu-Tech body
shell design and as a result Bailey are considering utilising this
technology throughout their entire range in the future. Bailey had
its best ever performance at the show with recorded sales of 6.7
million pounds, 2.2 million up on last year. To recognise the new
innovations and security enhancements on all of these ranges we are
offering up to 60% off our ‘Select’ and ‘Economy’ touring insurance policies.
Swift recorded a sale total of 28 million
pounds across group making a combined total of over 50 million over
the last two NEC shows. This represents an increase of over 25% on
previous years, an excellent result given the current economic
climate.
Many other companies reported excellent results as the show
proved to be a very successful event. Next year the show is
expected to see record attendances as it celebrates its
50th anniversary and is scheduled over half term.
