Sheds worry
1 September 2010
The issue of timber sheds on residential parks has always been a
contentious one given the potential fire risk, particularly if they
are sited in between adjacent homes thus potentially increasing the
risk of fire spreading from one home to the next.
There is probably not a park in the country where this is not an
issue and there are probably 1000's of timber sheds up and down the
country. Paul Baker from Towergate Bakers recently visited
Boothstone Park in Staffordshire at the request of the park owner
and residents most of whom are insured by Bakers. Pleasingly the
local authority here responsible for enforcing the site licence
conditions have taken a pragmatic view allowing the sheds to remain
on the understanding that they are replaced with non combustible
structures when the home changes hands.
Paul was able to reassure both the park owner and the residents
that the sheds themselves were fully insured, the policy
automatically includes outbuildings such as sheds, porches,
greenhouses and garages and that any liability arising from the
ownership of the sheds was covered by their Bakers policy too.
It is always very good news when potentially difficult issues
can be sensibly and pragmatically resolved and Paul is always
available to talk to park owners and residents and to visit them on
site to discuss any park and park home related issues.
