Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the questions we are often asked. If you can’t find the answer to your question, please call us 0870 998 0281 and talk to our ever-helpful, expert team.
Will my home be insured for storm damage?
Yes, our policies provide cover against a wide range of perils including storm.
What am I likely to receive if my home is damaged beyond repair?
We will replace your park home with its brand new equivalent and pay any associated costs for site clearance, delivery and re-siting, provided your sum insured is sufficient. We will also pay the cost of replacing your contents as new, again provided you have insured for a sufficient amount.
How will I know how much to insure my park home for?
Speak to your site owner or manager. He or she will be able to tell you how much an equivalent unit would cost new and how much the additional costs would be for site clearance, delivery and re-siting. These can vary from one park to the next and may even be influenced by the position of your park home – for example if your unit is in a site where specialist lifting equipment would be needed.
Will my park home be covered when I am away on holiday?
So long as you are not away for more than 30 days, your property and contents will be insured in the same way as when you are living in it. If you are away for more than 30 days, some events will not be insured, e.g. frost damage to plumbing and/or escape of water.
How much will I have to pay as an excess if I have to claim?
Nothing at all for the majority of claims. There is, however, a £500 excess for subsidence damage. If you have extended the accidental damage cover there is a £25 excess for claims arising under the extended cover. Similarly, if you have bought additional cover for any personal possessions that you want to cover away from your home and not specified the item, you will be asked to pay the first £15 of your claim.

Case study
On a stormy March day, returning from a shopping trip, Mr and Mrs P
were shocked to find that the roof of their park home had been torn
away. They dialled 999 and the fire brigade were able to
secure the roof temporarily, preventing further damage.
At 10.00am next morning Mr P phoned us to report the
incident. We arranged for a loss adjuster to visit that
afternoon. The adjuster also contacted a specialist repairer,
who replaced the roof a week later.
The park home has now been restored to its former condition. Mr and
Mrs P thanked us for our “kindness, professionalism and help in
this stressful situation”, and for processing the claim “as quickly
as possible”.

Towergate Bakers were the first to offer an insurance policy
specifically designed for residential park homes and have been
providing insurance cover for over thirty-five years. So we are
well placed to advise on the simple things you can do to reduce the
risk of a claim in the first place.
Here are some key tips:
- Make sure your property is fitted
with smoke alarms. Check them regularly and replace the batteries
every six months regardless of whether the alarm has been activated
or not.
- Never allow strangers into your
property and leave them unsupervised.
- Never leave expensive items on view
and always lock your doors and windows when you are not in your
property or have retired for the night.
- Always shred confidential documents
or anything that includes your personal information before putting
in your rubbish or recycling bin.
- Never use an open chip-pan – for
frying chips a fully-enclosed deep fat fryer is far
safer.
- If you are going to be away from
your park home for an extended period ask a neighbour to keep an
eye on your property for you.
- If your park is not already part of
a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme, why not suggest forming one with
fellow residents?
- Contact your local police community
officer about other things you can do to prevent being a victim of
crime. Why not invite the officer to visit the park to talk to the
residents association?
